How Great is Our God?

Psa 99:1 The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble:
he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.
2 The LORD is great in Zion;
and he is high above all the people.
3 Let them praise thy great and terrible name;
for it is holy.
4 The king's strength also loveth judgment;
thou dost establish equity,
thou executest judgment
and righteousness in Jacob.
5 Exalt ye the LORD our God,
and worship at his footstool;
for he is holy.
6 Moses and Aaron among his priests,
and Samuel among them that call upon his name;
they called upon the LORD,
and he answered them.
7 He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar:
they kept his testimonies,
and the ordinance that he gave them.
8 Thou answeredst them,
O LORD our God:
thou wast a God that forgavest them,
though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions.
9 Exalt the LORD our God,
and worship at his holy hill;
for the LORD our God is holy.

How great is our God? He is so big He can hold this universe in His hand. But He is so small His fullness can dwell in your heart. He is so mighty he controls every rain drop yet He is so gentle He guilds the steps of a baby. He is so Awesome the heavens can not contain Him but He robbed Himself in this flesh. So great that He rules with absolute authority and He speaks to me in the smallest voice. You can't understand Him with your head but you can feel Him with your heart. How great is our God?

In the hand of Satan

I just happen to be reading through Job and I found something very interesting in chapter ii. In chapter ii we see Satan, once again, coming before the presence of the LORD. And just like in chapter i we see the LORD ask Satan 'Hast thou considered my servant Job?' Satan thought if he could afflict Job's body he could get Job to deny God. So God says to Satan, and this is the verse I would like to focus on, in chapter ii verse 6 'And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.'

If you read this verse you see God giving control of Job's body to Satan 'Behold, he is in thine hand'. God didn't lose control of Job, God permitted Satan to attack Job. Nothing in this universe happens with out the permission and power of the LORD's almighty hand. Where does Satan get's his power? God is solitary in His awesomeness. God is the only self-sustaining being in this universe which he has created. Satan is not a self-sustained being, he is finite and a creation of the creator. Therefore Satan could not have the power to afflict Job unless given by the LORD himself.

Christian, how often is that old accuser knocking at our door? Don't you think he is there for a purpose? If God gave permission for Satan to attack Job, don't you think God has a reason for allowing Satan to come your way? Satan has already been given permission from God and power as well. Remember the words of Paul to the Corinthians '...but [God] will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.' (I Cor. x.13) God would never let something your way unless it was for your good (James i.2,3) and for His Glory!

An Exposition of Pslam CVII

First we see our distresses(6). This is the first and the most troublesome of the problems. You see distress as a re-occurring theme throughout the whole chapter. Distress seems to go hand-in-hand with all these other things (6, 13, 19, 28) How do we get victory over our distresses? 'Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!' (8)

Second observe victory over darkness(10). Darkness is talking about the sins that hold us down (10) How do we get out from under these sins that hold us captive? 'Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!' (15)

Thirdly we see people and their destructions(20). This comes from a mixture of ignorance and sin (17) How do you keep yourself from the destruction of sin? 'Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!' (21)

Fourthly we have an issue with being down (26). We must keep in mind that all the storms of life that are sent our way are from the LORD (25) How do we get out of the storms of life? 'Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!' (31)

The psalmist here is urging, begging, and imploring us to give praise to the LORD. In scripture the exclamation point is not used very often. But we find here it is used 4 times, in this passage alone! In fact after verse 32 all there is, is praising. The answer to a ton of our problems is to just simply praise the LORD for what He has done in our lives!!!

What the World Needs

The world does not need hymnals and pianos. The world does not need choirs and robs. The world does not need Sunday School and Goodwill stores. The world does not need Spurgeon and John Piper. The World does not need Baptist and Presbyterians. The World does not need The Convention or the Independents. The world needs Jesus. The world needs to know Jesus loves them. The world needs Jesus.

Lets Talk about Jesus!

There are two things we don’t do enough. Break into random song and talk about Jesus. Jesus knew the thoughts of every man. This grieved him so much. God can not stand sin. So if Christ knew the every thought of every man don’t you think this would have caused him to be sad? But you know what? Christ was the happiest man that every lived. He counted the cross a joy. We as Christians aught the be the happiest people on the earth. What does the world have to offer? We have so much more to be happy for. Crack a smile and follow Christs’ example of Joy :)

GET A GRIP!!!

GET A GRIP!!! Ever hear that old saying? Someone basically telling you to check back into reality? Someone telling you to get a grip on life? James tells us in chapter iv and verse 14 '...ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is a vapour,' You can't know what tomorrow has for you, its like a vapour. Have you ever tried to grab a cloud or a whisp of smoke? You can't get a handle on it. You can't get a grip on life either. Only God knows what tomorrow holds. Get a tight grip on God, and you will you have a good grip on life.

III. God, in His ordinary providence, makes use of means, yet is free to work without, above, and against them, at His pleasure.

V. The most wise, righteous, and gracious God does oftentimes leave, for a season, His own children to manifold temptations, and the corruption of their own hearts, to chastise them for their former sins, or to discover unto them the hidden strength of corruption and deceitfulness of their hearts, that they may be humbled; and, to raise them to a more close and constant dependence for their support upon Himself, and to make them more watchful against all future occasions of sin, and for sundry other just and holy ends.
