understanding mind to govern your people
When God came to Solomon and asked him for whatever he wanted he asked for wisdom. I am not shocked at the request. I am impressed by the motive behind the request.
Solomon did not ask for riches and fame. He asked for an 'understanding mind'. Solomon asked for this because he wanted to rule God's people in a way that would honour and glorify God. The motive behind his request was to bring God honour and glory.
Solomon was not thinking about what he wanted at this time. His desire was God-ward. Today I would pray that all my prayer-requests would not benefit me, unless it was to help me please God more.
